The Sydney Library of Things is powered by people.
Our wonderful volunteers make it possible for hundreds of useful things to be shared rather than bought — saving people money, reducing waste and keeping perfectly good resources in circulation.
But volunteering with us isn’t just about things. It’s about people too.
It’s a chance to meet others in your local community, learn new skills, share the skills you already have and be part of a practical, positive response to overconsumption and waste.
You don’t need to be an expert in tools, repairs or sustainability. You just need to be friendly, reliable and keen to lend a hand.
Whether you have a few hours to give regularly, or particular skills you’d like to contribute, we’d love to hear from you.
Looking for a meaningful way to get involved in your local community?
Our Branch Coordinators are the friendly link between the different volunteer teams that keep each Library of Things running. It might sound like a big job, but you won’t be doing everything yourself! Each area has its own team leaders, and you’ll have plenty of support from the wider Sydney Library of Things team.
The role is flexible and mostly about keeping people connected, noticing when something needs attention and helping things run smoothly.
If you’re organised, enjoy working with people and like the idea of helping a great community initiative thrive, we’d love to hear from you.
You don’t need previous experience — just a little time, enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.
Love the idea of keeping things in use for longer, reducing waste and bringing people together?
We’re currently looking for two friendly, organised and community-minded volunteers to help coordinate our monthly Repair Hubs.
You don’t need to know how to fix things yourself. This role is about helping make the magic happen — welcoming people, supporting our wonderful volunteer repairers, keeping things organised and helping your Repair Hub run smoothly.
It’s a great role for someone who enjoys connecting with people, is comfortable taking a little responsibility and wants to make a practical contribution to the circular economy in their local community.
You’ll volunteer at one of our monthly Repair Hubs, rather than needing to cover both.
Help us build a culture where repairing something becomes the first thought — not throwing it away.
Our front desk volunteers are at the heart of the Library of Things.
You’ll welcome borrowers, prepare loans for collection, check returned items back in and help keep everything organised. Just as importantly, you’ll chat with people who drop by and help them discover more about the Library and what we do.
You’ll share your 3–4 hour shift with another volunteer, so it’s also a lovely opportunity to meet people and become part of your local Library of Things community.
Choose your local branch below to find out more and tell us you’d like to help.
Because small, practical actions add up.
Every item borrowed instead of bought means fewer resources consumed, less clutter and less waste. Every item repaired and returned to use gets a little more life. And every person who becomes involved helps us build a stronger culture of sharing, repairing and reusing what we already have.
Along the way, you’ll meet people in your community, share knowledge, perhaps learn something new — and hopefully have some fun too.
Community organisations need all sorts of people.
Perhaps you’re handy with tools, great at organising, have communications or admin skills, love events, know how to fix things — or simply have some time and enthusiasm to offer.
We’d love to hear from you.
The Sydney Library of Things exists because people choose to contribute a little of their time to create something useful for everyone.
Come and be part of it.
